Local Lifestyle

East Atlanta is a dense urban neighborhood that still features some green spaces, a mix of older houses and new construction, and a thriving economy. The area used to be an independent city and played a historic role in the Civil War.
In recent years, East Atlanta has emerged as one of the most exciting neighborhoods in the city. The residents of the area pride themselves on their close community and take any opportunity to get out, mix and mingle with locals and visitors alike. The community has especially worked to prevent gentrification. Many of the businesses here are locally owned, and many of the beautiful and unique older homes remain as well.

Dining, Entertainment, and Shopping

The beating heart of the area is the East Atlanta Village — a melting pot of restaurants, pubs, bookshops, artisan bakeries, bars, bike shops, clothing stores, and more. Stroll along these streets during the day for a more family-friendly vibe, or come at night if you want to get your party on.
Some of the best restaurants in town can also be found in this area, including Argosy, a local pub-style restaurant known for its eclectic offerings and decor, friendly staff and service, and delicious burgers and pizza.
Home of the best bagels outside of New York and a true East Atlanta gem, Emerald City Bagels is how folks in the know start their day and a required stop during any East Atlanta Village event.

Things to Do

Music is a way of life in East Atlanta, and there are venues to suit any taste. A staple of the neighborhood music scene, the EARL is an alternative music venue that also features some of the best burgers in Atlanta. Another crowd favorite, known as the best place to party in East Atlanta Village, is The Basement, an underground dance club, and live music venue.
East Atlanta puts on a ton of events to keep community members engaged, including the EAV Farmers Market. Located in a grassy park and featuring an edible learning garden for kids, this is one of the oldest farmers’ markets in the city and a pioneer of the food movement in Atlanta. It has also been voted the Reader’s Pick for the Best Outdoor Farmers Market in Atlanta’s Creative Loafing Magazine five years in a row. Whether you’re looking for produce, eggs, prepared meals, or artisan goods, you’ll find just what you're looking for here.
A can’t-miss event for anyone looking to get a feel for East Atlanta is the East Atlanta Strut. This neighborhood festival spans the whole East Atlanta Village area and provides artists, bands, food, drinks and crazy games galore for its visitors to enjoy.
Brownwood Park is one of the main parks in this area. The park is split in half — the south side features walking trails and bike paths that wind through forested land, while the northern side hosts a community garden, sports courts, and a recreation center.
